Alice Walker

Alice Walker wrote the classic, The Color Purple, which is frequently challenged as inappropriate reading for students by reactionaries due to its “sexual and social explicitness” and its “troubling ideas” about race relations, our relationship to the idea of a God, African history, and human sexuality. The book is highly recommended by most everyone else.
